Love this post. Thanks for everything you do for us, John. And I'm super happy to hear you got your songs back!

Watch out, though, that the record company hasn’t adversely possessed the artists’ authorship. That concept was born in a 1996 Ninth Circuit case and has since spread among the circuits, including now in termination cases, like the Sixth Circuit’s recent Everly brothers decisions. I’ve got a draft paper on it — Ending the Adverse Possession of Authorship — that I’ve yet to post publicly but would be glad to share with you privately now if you’re interested.

I commend you for fighting for worldwide recapture, though, given that it is certain that the record industry will fight tooth and nail right up to the Supreme Court to stymie any change to the status quo, I take it that it will be a long struggle, especially since any positive Supreme Court verdict would still need to be replicated internationally. Is it likely, then, that we are looking at a decades long struggle before the heirs of Lennon and McCartney (and Strohm!) finally wrest their international publishing rights back from Sony et al?

i don't pretend to understand the workings of Cyril Vetter's case, but i have known the guy since i was a child (his now-wife used to babysit me!). Cyril was always encouraging my music career, even if my parents were not very supportive for some of that time. Vetter has written a few great books and more songs than the 'one hit wonder', and is a phenomenal drummer.

much appreciate the info and kind offer, here! unfortunately, my publishing is more complicated, because (as a drummer, at the time) i was persuaded to publish my co-writes on the other writer's publishing. and, none on any major labels. but, the services you offer are very timely and kudos to you!
