I love this one. My oldest is going off to college and its hitting me in a "I could use a group to talk about it" kind of way. I'm suddenly complaining MUCH less about make breakfast for my youngest.
Sweet Dawes shirt. Lee Pandini sat in on keys for that Mickey Raphael show I saw in December and I'm now a giant fan.
That Dawes shirt is from 2008, before North Hills came out! They did a tour opening for The Delta Spirit. They got signed on that tour. Those are the shirts they were selling at the time.
If you need to talk through your empty nesting struggles, I am here.
Happy for you, John. Missed out on having kids. Given the way things ended up that was probably both a good thing & my biggest regret. As for cooking, it is like playing music. When you’re in a groove and focused on making a favorite, familiar recipe, it’s a kind of meditation with a tasty result.
That's pretty rare, to have a hand in the arts, in cutting edge technology trends, in business entrepreneurship, and a solid family life. Could you have imagined any/all of this as an indie punk misfit in the 80s midwest?
No. I didn’t think about having a family much through my 20s because the idea gave me anxiety. I wanted it but didn’t know how I could afford or manage it. That’s why I went back to school for 5 years in my 30s and I’m glad it’s worked out. I could have easily painted myself into a corner had I not made that radical move.
Gosh, this is a sweet and poignant essay. I love that it included a recipe - what a bonus! Is there a song embedded in here - maybe a follow-up to the original Anna song?
Thanks for sharing a snapshot of your beautiful life!

Right on.

Well when you put it like that, lol…

All's well that ends well!
I envy you dude! My wife and I were not able to have children. You rock
Very sorry. I thank God every day for the opportunity to be out a few million bucks.
Beautiful family! Food is love. I might make that soup, & I’ll report back if I do.
Please do!

We’ll be trying this! And like your household, I’m the one who measures. Blake is throw and go.
Nice!
I love anything with a soup recipe :)
